Intriguing ! I have never read a book by Gregg Olsen before and now I believe I want to read all his other books.  I do wish I had read his book “Abandoned Prayers” prior to reading this book because its kinda like part one of this book even then though you really don’t need to but it may be helpful to know who the people are. The Amish Wife is about an Amish woman named Ida who was married to a man named Eli. One very strange night a barn caught fire on Ida and Eli’s farm. The course of events that lead to that are a mystery that this author wants to so desperately solve.  Ida died that night and the mystery begins there.  Did she die in the fire? Was she murdered by Eli? The unraveling of events that  may have lead up to this night and beyond are captivating .  Eli who is now dead at his own hand and most of the people who where around more then 20 years ago when this happened either don’t want to talk or are also dead. Will Gregg Olsen every get the just Ida so desperately deserves or will it have died with Eli and the others that knew the truth.

This is a fast-paced book. It is a little confusing because the Amish names are very similar. That’s why I think if you read “Abandoned Prayers”, it may be able to make the connections easier.  I love the authors thought process and his determination.  He does occasionally switch to another mystery he is trying to solve that he mentions through out the book.  This book is not just a book to this author its deeply personal because of the connections he has made during the research of “Abandoned Prayers” and this book. I found this interesting because the Amish culture is very interesting to me but to enjoy this book you do not have to enjoy it as much as me, the mystery and the scandals are enough to keep you turning the pages.

I highly recommend this book and honestly this author.  I have since purchased several of his other books.
